It was mostly cloudy, thin cloud layers high above and humid. Usually I would not roll the gear out into such a mess but I just had my Nikon D5300 modified (IR-Filter removed, now nick-named D5300a) and couldn't wait to make a new experience. With a wide level of tolerance I collected 40 lights of M42, only tracked, no calibration (explaining the dirty background), but I did attach a light pollution filter. This filter cuts off at 700nm. The modified D5300 sensor is insensitive beyond 700nm in that I did not expect any loss of light.

The ghost at the bottom right of the bright star to the right of M42 (Hatysa) is due to the LPR being an interference type filter which is threaded over the refractor's 70mm lens, the worst place of all in the train (wish it was NGC 1980). Anyway, considering the short integration and poor seeing this is a quite remarkable result which probably does not surprise experienced users of modified DSLRs.

It has been so long in that I forgot how to process DSOs in Siril and Photoshop, no kidding. Was I drunk or does a modified DSLR rotate images 180°?

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
